Scholarship
The Bakersfield Chapter offers a $500 scholarship to woman conducting flight training. It is either to be used by the recipient to obtain her private pilot license or to obtain an advanced rating to further her pursuit of a career in aviation.
To Qualify Applicant must:
If the applicant is a student pilot: Must have passed the written exam, soloed and have a current medical
If applicant is seeking an advanced rating: the applicant must have a current flight review and all prerequisite ratings for the rating she seeks
1. Must be 18 years old by August 31st of the award year
2. Must have 10 hours of logged instruction within last 90 days of scholarship deadline
3. Must have a current and valid medical certificate
4. Must be a member of the Southwest Section of the Ninety-Nines (California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Hawaii)
5. Must conduct flight training within 150NM of KBFL
4. Must receive their flight training within the United States.
6. Demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
Application Window
Applications open August 1st
Due Date: must be submitted and received by September 31st.
SCHOLARSHIPS WILL BE AWARDED on or before October 15th and announced at that month's Chapter meeting. Training may commence immediately.
To Apply:
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PACKET MUST CONTAIN:
-Scholarship application (10pts)
-Essay of at least 500 words (one-page maximum). (40pts)
-Copies of both sides of the last two pages of logbook. (5pts)
-Copy of medical certificate (5pts)
-Copy of student pilots license or pilot's certificates (5pts)
-One Letter of Recommendation by an instructor, co-worker, teacher, employer, etc. who has known the applicant for at least six months. (5pts)
-Describe the proposed training (who, what, where and when), budget and timeline that includes your completion date. (30pts)
Terms and Conditions:
The recipient agrees to complete the goal within 24 calendar months of award.
The scholarships will be paid directly to the flight school or independent flight instructor conducting the training with the invoice and description of training and show hours flown (copy of logbook) and be signed by both the student and instructor, before funds are distributed. All scholarship awards will be deposited with the training provider as training progresses.
The recipient will be required to submit an aviation photo of herself for publicity/transparency purposes to be posted on the Bakersfield Ninety-nines website and social pages.
